MEETINGS:  Our meetings are held on the third Monday of the month, at 7.30pm.

On even months, we meet at Heather Hall, cnr Penquite Road and Robin Street, Newstead.

On the uneven months, we sometimes meet at a range of venues around the Launceston municipality in order to better respond to local issues.

  MEETING LAUNCESTON RATEPAYERS ASSOCIATION

Members & visitors are invited to our meeting of residents & ratepayers.

Where ?   INVERMAY BOWLS CLUB, Forster St Invermay.

When ?    7-30pm MONDAY 15th December

Our Invermay meeting will include a Forum on Launceston Roads and further discussion concerning the operation of Public Car Parks in Launceston by both LCC and CarePark.

Two months ago, at an earlier meeting at Invermay, there was vigorous discussion by local residents who were opposing the construction of a Link Road from The Northern Outlet along Forster Street, and then be constructed to connect up with Vermont Road and on to Remount Road. In response to public submissions, which were supported by the Launceston Ratepayers’ Association, Councilors voted against the proposal.

The need for a better road system in Launceston is obvious, and it is important that residents and users of roads be fully consulted and their views heard by the decision makers.

The operation and ownership of Public Car Parks in Launceston is the subject of considerable concern to customers and traders of the city alike. The continuing stream of letters being recently published in the local press have not all been based on correct information, so we hope to be able to present this and help the community give its opinions based on proper and fair information.

It is hoped that Launceston City Council Aldermen, some staff and representatives of RACT will be attending the meeting, along with residents not only from Invermay, but also the Cimitiere St Glebe area and Elphin Road, all of whom have been seeking relief from traffic passing through these residential areas, and have been pursuing the construction of a road system to bypass these areas to the east of the city.

The Agenda will be published on our website prior to the meeting, and information to be presented to the meeting will  include

·         The Associations plan showing the currently zoned course of a road to the east of the city, and,

·         A new east-west link road we have proposed along the northern edge of the North Esk River, connecting to Henry Street and the zoned Eastern Road.

·         Details of all LCC Public Car Parks, their operating hours and charges, and

·         Likewise, the information concerning the 20 Public Carparks operated in Launceston by Carepark, supported by a company profile provided to us by them.

The Association calls on all Launceston residents, both ratepayers and renters, to BECOME INVOLVED WITH OUR ASSOCIATION, HAVE YOUR SAY, REPRESENT YOUR FAMILY, BECAUSE OTHERWISE YOU WILL FIND YOUR 2009 RATES BILL WILL JUST BE ANOTHER SHOCKING REPEAT OF THE LAST 4  YEARS. With the world economic crises fuelling a possible recession and inflation on the increase, living costs are a major worry. Launceston has the highest proportion pensioner population in the country. Cost savings must be made by the LCC, and grandiose projects and non-essential programs must be stopped.

THE ASSOCIATION NOW HAS ITS WEBSITE OPERATING, sponsored by Internet Tasmania.
